Role Available - ~15 hours per week, AU / NZ
Ready to help unsquiggle a my business?
About Squiggle Collective
I'm Kristine, and I run an independent strategy consultancy that specialises in unsquiggling complex problems for public sector leaders. My career has been delightfully squiggly - from sustainability analyst to waste-to-energy specialist, from innovation program lead to strategy consultant.
Now I help leaders nail their narrative, increase stakeholder confidence, and build capability for strategic change. I work collaboratively with clients to uncover the simplest, most compelling version of what they already know to be true. No jargon, no pretending to be the expert when I'm not - just practical solutions to strategic challenges.
Here's the thing: I've built a practice that's mostly reliant on me, and that's been fine. But there's an opportunity to shift into something more - new program offerings, scalable products, and a book about public sector strategy that creates leverage for new ideas and growth. I need the right partner to help make this shift happen.
The Role: Business Manager
(15 hours/week, Remote)
This isn't your typical assistant or admin role. I need someone who can be an equal parts organiser, creative partner, and gentle boundary protector. Someone who can take my passionate ramblings about public sector transformation and turn them into actual content. Someone who gets that delegation isn’t my strong suit but knows how to help anyway.
Your Focus Areas:
Client Experience & Operations
Transform my client journey from "Kristine delivers amazing work" to "Kristine delivers an experience"
Turn my post-it note milestone tracking into actual systems
Coordinate with client EAs (they're lovely, you'll like them)
Building the Brand
Take my content, thinking (and sometimes random thoughts) and turn them into useful and valuable LinkedIn content
Build the email list we've been talking about
Build my positioning as an author (book deadline: 2026)
Make us "easy to buy" not just "custom consulting"
The Boring But Essential Stuff
Stay on top of invoicing to keep cash flow healthy
Tame my subscriptions
Link pipeline to milestones to invoicing
Free my brain from admin so I can focus on strategic work
Future-Proofing
Research and implement learning platforms (Circle? Something else?)
Explore AI tools to make everything easier
Document processes so they're not all in my head
Help launch programs that currently only exist on the ideas board
About You
You're probably someone who:
Gets energy from creating order out of creative environments
Has worked in or with public sector (so you understand the context – not a deal breaker)
Appreciates passionate rants followed by serious delivery
Can handle ambiguity without breaking into a cold sweat
Has an eye for design and can make PowerPoints look schmick
Actually asks for clarity instead of guessing
Brings solutions, not just problems
The vibe check: Can you laugh at my contradictions while still pushing for results? Can you say "What can I do to make this better?" and actually mean it? Do you understand that my flexibility is both a strength and a weakness that needs gentle management? Then we should talk.
The Kristine Experience
I'm passionate about public sector transformation. I'm outcomes-focused but process-allergic. I handle direct feedback well (married to a South African!). I'll over-appreciate when you nail something, and occasionally fix things myself when under pressure, then explain what I was looking for.
I believe in iteration over perfection, facilitation over expertise, and dancing in messiness rather than forcing linear solutions. I'm confident in my approach but humble in my presence. And yes, I know I need to delegate better - that's why you're here.
